The 2022 Mayborn Conference, now in its 18th year, will deliver all the insights into great narrative storytelling you’ve come to expect – but at a new location in Downtown Dallas.
 

Mark your calendars for October 28 & 29 and make plans to join us for this year’s event: “Diary of a Storyteller: Crafting Words that Matter.”
 

Over the past few years, our worlds have been turned topsy-turvy. One fact has remained consistent: Quality storytelling is alive and well, capturing the voices, the scenes and characters in captivating, descriptive and powerful ways.
 

This year’s goes back to the basics, showing how to focus on writing craft fuels greater creativity, the passionate exploration of people and places and drives the pervasive journey of all writers to tell great stories.

 

New locations, new experiences.
 

We’re continuing our tradition of fabulous annual storytelling, educating and inspiring the next generation of journalists and communicators. Our partners at The Dallas Morning News and the UNT Dallas College of Law will be our gracious hosts for most of the event.
 

The Friday night reception will also feature a special tour of a new, not-yet-open to the public Lee Harvey Oswald exhibit in the UNT College of Law basement (the old courthouse and Dallas City Hall), just steps from where Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby. The building is full of stories, so it is the appropriate venue to kick off our return to an in-person conference.
 

All Saturday speaker presentations panel discussions will take place in the awesome offices of The Dallas Morning News just across the street from the Law School. After a full day of discussions focused on the craft of writing, we’ll move next door to the beautiful Statler Hotel for our evening reception and awards presentation.
 

Or, if you’d rather enjoy it all from the snugness of your home or office, we’ll have a virtual option available this year for a reduced price. Like the two previous years, we’ll send you a link to enjoy and learn from all the same outstanding content.

Speakers and Panelists who know story craft.
 

We’re hard at work building our lineup speakers – journalists and authors who can share keen insights into the craft of narrative writing.
 

So far, we’ll welcome Ernie Suggs, author of the new book “the Many Lives of Andrew Young,” Anna Badkhen, whose seventh book, “Bright Unbearable Reality,” launches in October, and New York Times feature writer Elizabeth Williamson, author of “Sandy Hook: An American Tragedy and the Battle for Truth.”
 

Additionally, Jane Wolfe, author of the best-selling book, “The Murchison’s: The Rise and Fall of a Texas Dynasty,” will join us to discuss her latest biography, “Burl: Journalism Giant and Medical Trailblazer." The biography celebrates the inspiring life of media executive Burl Osborne, former publisher and editor of The Dallas Morning News and Chairman of The Associated Press.
