We've got our 2017 Ten Spurs anthology posted online! Read the individual submissions to the anthology by clicking on the 'Publications' tab at the top of this webpage. Then, click on 'Ten Spurs' in the dropdown menu. From there, click on the 2017 tab to read what were the 10 best submissions made to our 2016 reported narrative and personal essay contests. These works represent the top three reported narratives, the top three personal essays and four additional runnerups, as selected by an award-winning panel of judges.

Inspired? Want to try your hand at joining this stellar group of authors? Then, be sure and check out the 'Contests' tab above on this site to read up on all of our different contests. Each has a different deadline and requirements, so be sure and note those details. For the 2018 Ten Spurs contest that will select the best reported narratives and personal essays, the deadline is 11:59 p.m. CST May 1, 2018. The winners from this spring's contest will be announced at our 2018 Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference, slated for July 20-22 in Grapevine, Texas. The 2018 winners will all see their works published in what will be the 2019 edition of Ten Spurs.

Registration to the conference is required to enter the Ten Spurs contest. We do our best to ensure every submission either sees that its author receives a seat in a writers' workshop slated for July 20 – OR – if unable to be seated in a workshop, s/he will be set up with a one-on-one, 15- to 30-minute coaching session with one of our award-winning alumni.

Please peruse our website to learn more about the 2018 conference. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to email our conference email, maybornconfinfo@unt.edu, for general questions – OR – our contest email, mayborncontest@unt.edu, for contest-related questions.
